最初ここの意味を '活動を再開する' と取ってしまい停止してたっけ？と若干混乱したのですが、ここでは '回復' のほうの意ですね。'back in business' は '帰ってきたぞ！' 的なニュアンスを持つ、いわゆる決まり文句のようです。 意訳すると「Airbnbは、我々は日本のビジネスへ戻ってきた、と述べた」のような感じでしょうか。

There are 50,000 listings available in the country, with another 23,000 rooms in hotels and traditional inns known as ryokan, ...

旅館 = 'traditional inns' なんですね。

That compares with 60,000 total in June 2018, when the new short-term lodging rules went into effect.

Listings plunged by almost 80 percent to just 13,800, the Nikkei newspaper reported at the time.

よくわからなくなっちゃうのですが 'by N%' で N%減少した、なので 'plunged by almost 80 percent' ここではほぼ80%減少した、ですね。

日本語でも'潮目が変わった'とかって言いますが、英語でも同じ表現があるんですね。

'we are going to live to 100' はここでは我々みんな100歳まで生きる、ということかと思います。辞書で引くと '100歳まで生きる: live to be a hundred (years old)' となっていますが、色々省略されているのかなと。

感想

Airbnb、リスティングが回復していたと言うのは知りませんでした。記事によると民泊新法施行前の60,000件 -> 13,800件 -> 現在73,000件とのことなので、かなりのV字回復ですね。

周りの同僚たち（ほぼ外国人）は、一年前の「リスト削除祭り」でやられてた人がまあまあいて（予約がキャンセルになったりだとか）、それきっかけで日本の法律やレギュレーションの厳しさをdisっていた人が多かったです。

Uberなんかもレギュレーションに阻まれて日本で本格展開できていないサービスの一つですが、一年ほど前はどちらかというとUberの進出を許さない日本のレギュレーションの厳しさ＝保護主義的なところが槍玉に挙げられていたのに対し、今になって逆にU.S本国で問題噴出しているので、どっちもどっちなのかなあと言う気がしています。グレーゾーンに対する考え方の違いですね。

ともあれAirbnb、リスト回復してきたと言うのを知らない人結構いると思うので、教えてあげようと思います。

Impression

I've been a stranger to Airbnb for a year, I didn't know about their rebound from the new law in effect. Recovery from 13,800 to 73,000 in listing is exceptional (and even more than before the new law came into effect) !

I remember that many colleges complained about Japanese strict laws and regulations when Airbnb deleted most of inns from their listing, because some of them were forced to cancel their bookings.

I think 🤔 Uber is also one of the services which have been struggling to enter into Japanese market. A year ago when Uber tried to start their business in Japan, the situation was slightly different. Most of the people had criticized conservative strategy of Japanese regime at that time. It was like "Hey, this is Japan! No innovations!" kind of thing.

But now, I cannot say which was correct. Take a look 👀 at Uber in US, there are tons of issues and critics. I guess these differences between Japan and the others (mostly US) come from the way of thinking, especially how to treat "gray zone".

Anyway! I'll let my colleagues know that "Airbnb is back in Japan!".
