英語記事です。 みなさんUniqlo着てますか？かくいう自分も結構愛用させて頂いてます :) そんなUniqloが、レジ袋を "Single-use plastic bag" = 使い捨てのビニール袋から紙袋に切り替えるよ〜、と言うお話。

  • plastic waste: プラスチック廃棄物
    • waste: むだ(遣い)、浪費、ゴミ、廃棄物
  • take action: 行動を起こす
  • single-use: 使い捨て用の、一回使用の
    • 使い捨て: disposable, throwaway

"waste" は "むだ、浪費" の意味もありますが、ここでは "ゴミ、廃棄物" の方ですね。

"single-use" で使い捨てを表せるんですね。そのほかには "disposable", "throwaway" という単語もありますが、どれも同じように "使い捨て" を表す言葉として使えるようです。

使い分けはほとんどなさそう...ですが、強いて言えば"single-use" は一回使用の意味があるため一度使うと使えなくなるものを表すのにわかりやすく、"disposable" は捨てられる・処分できる(ように意図して作られている)という意味なので、捨てられる感が強いやつはこちらがしっくりきそうです。"使い捨ておむつ: disposable diapers"とか。

個人的にはビニール袋は一回こっきりの使い捨てではないので、"disposable" の方がしっくりきます。

感想

紙袋、意外とおしゃれな感じに仕上がってますね。自分はかなりUniqloを愛用しているので、まあまあ気になる話題です。 紙袋は重さや湿気に弱いので、スーパーとかの場合若干不便ですが（たぶんエコバックの方が吉）、衣類はそんなに重くないし水分もないのでどんどん紙袋に置き換えていけばいいんじゃないかなーと思いました。

Impression

The paper bag in the picture looks very good! I'm a bit interested in this, because Uniqlo is one of my favorite clothing brand and I often visit to buy clothes. It's not really convenient to use paper bags at supermarket or so since paper bags aren't designed as water and weight-proof. But when it comes to clothes, I think there's no problem about weight and water. So... just do it!
